The youth work of AIM.

After a research among 100 Junior High School (JHS) in Komenda students has been conducted by AIM. in October 2006, the establishment of a youth club has been seen elementary to support the educational situation in Komenda.

The first AIM. youth club in Komenda was established in January 2007 and officially inaugurated on the 14th of January, 2008. In April 2009, a second youth club was inaugurated in Ayensudo. There are efforts to establish youth bases in the neighbouring communities e.g. Dutch Komenda and Ampenyi.

The youth clubs support the young people with respect to their development to self-responsible, mutually and socially orientated individuals. It provides a structural platform for the youth aside of school and home. This platform brings them together and gives them the possibility to exchange ideas among themselves, to express themselves to others and to indicate their interests. All activities of the youth clubs include these interests and stick to them. The young people participate in deciding and arranging these activities. In addition, the clubs provide opportunities to youth to develop their personality, to realize their potential and to build up social contacts. Special focus is set on supporting, exploring and developing own competencies, talents and interests.

This is done by offering workshops for the youth which make social, environmental, ecological, cultural and creative topics more accessible to them. The members, who are actively participating in the programs, are aged between twelve and nineteen. Additionally excursions are organised which help the youth to educate themselves more about their environment they are living (e.g. Elmina Castle, Kakum National Park).

Some of the workshops offered include the following: bead making; sewing; drama / theatre play; seminars on HIV/AIDs and NHIS; German history, graphic design and poetry recital.
